CLEARANCE OF HOUSEHOLD GOODS ENTERING FROM ABROAD

DEFINITION

Authorize the clearance of of furniture and household goods, new or used, that are the property of the traveler or the traveler and his family, shipped as freight, which can enter the country with prior inspection and payment of a single 20% rte, providing the household goods arrive in the country within one (1) month before or up to four (4) months after the date of arrival of the traveler, who must prove residence abroad of NO LESS THAN NINE CONSECUTIVE MONTHS. 

ARTICLES CONSIDERED HOUSEHOLD GOODS

Household Goods are those listed below, and which cannot be sold without prior payment of the differential duties: 

a) Furniture in geneal.

b) Rugs and carpets, up to a maximum of three (3) units. 

c) Table linen and bed linen.

d) Stemware, glassware, china, cutlery and other dining service items.

e) Kitchen and baking articles.

f) Art objects for home decorating including original paintings or copies. 

g) Electric home appliances, one of each kind. 

h) One radiophone, one television set, one music reproduction apparatus, and one video reproduction apparatus. 

i) Phonographic records, compact discs and magnetic tapes, a maximum of fifty (50) units in total. 

j) Diverse objects for cleaning and similar house uses. 

k) Bicycles.

l) Toys.

m) Other goods for use and consumption in the home.

n) One computer for personal use, with its corresponding printer. 

REQUIREMENTS

a) Simplified Declaration.

b) Bill of Lading, Airway Bill, Postal Notice or Postal Order, according to the method of transport used. 

c) Passport or official document issued by the pertinent institution (presented only for verification). 

d) Request for Household Goods

e) Invoice or Sworn Statement of Value.

f) Other documents that the nature of the operation requires. 

STAGES OF PROCEDURE

  • The traveler must present to the corresponding Customs Intendency the documents detailed above, with proof that the amounts do not exceed those permitted and that the minimum period of residence abroad is complied with. 
  • On presentation of the indicated documents, a Customs Specialist shall be assigned to carry out the physical inspection of the goods; if the goods are in order, the data will be entered to SIGAD for the appropriate duties liquidation order, for payment in the corresponding banking institution. 
  • The Household Goods may be retrieved on presentation of the copy of the Declaration duly approved and with the receipt of the banking transaction presented to the Customs Warehouse.
